Overview
Headquartered in Huntsville, Ala., Boeing Strategic Missile and Defense Systems provides integrated missile defense solutions for all phases of ballistic missile threats including boost, midcourse and terminal.
Comprising 3,200 people in nine major operating locations, Strategic Missile and Defense Systems is currently involved in the development of several key advanced missile defense and directed energy technologies and systems, and continues to provide established products and services to its customers.
Key programs include:
- Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD): The United States' only operationally deployed capability to defend against long-range ballistic missiles
- Airborne Laser Test Bed: A precise, high-energy laser system capable of destroying ballistic missiles in their boost phase of flight
- Arrow: Co-production of the Arrow II interceptor and co-development of the Arrow III interceptor for the Israel Ministry of Defense
- Directed Energy Systems: Development of systems to address multiple defense needs and customers
- Strategic Missile Systems: Support for the U.S. intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) force
