Boeing 777 For Cathay Pacific Takes Maiden Flight SEATTLE, May 26, 1995 -- Boeing's first 777 for Cathay Pacific today took to the skies at Paine Field in Everett, Wash. for its maiden flight. As the initial airplane powered by the Rolls-Royce Trent 800 powerplant, Cathay Pacific's 777 will be rigorously tested over the next several months to meet certification requirements. It will be delivered in March 1996 after certification and route proving is complete. Cathay Pacific has 11 Boeing 777's on firm order with an option for an additional 11 airplanes. The Boeing 777's design offers features, innovations and approaches to aircraft development that will set the standard well into the next century. When it enters service in early June, it will be the largest twinjet in commercial operation. In addition, passengers on the 777 will enjoy a bright, roomy fuselage resulting in wider aisles and the widest seats in its class. Large overhead compartments, which open downward for convenient loading, will provide increased stowage capacity. When closed, the units fit neatly into the streamlined contours of the interior architecture and allow ample overhead clearance. Total 777 announced orders stand at 144 aircraft, with options placed on 99 more. |
