China And Boeing Partnership Delivering Value

BEIJING, Oct. 12, 1995 -- China's aviation industry and Boeing have developed a strong relationship by working together to maximize mutual benefit, said Michael Zimmerman, president, Boeing China, Inc.

Zimmerman made the comments today in a presentation at the China Aviation Industry Summit in Beijing.

Zimmerman said, "Today, there are more than 400 airplanes that operate commercially in China, and Boeing produced more than 240 of those airplanes. China has become a large market for western airframe manufacturers, and Boeing has been privileged to have received the vast majority of those orders." Between 1993 and the end of 1995 alone, Boeing will have delivered more than 100 commercial jets to China.

"To satisfy our customers in China, in an increasingly complex global market, Boeing has responded with products and services that deliver superior value," said Zimmerman.

"China is admired throughout the world for the continued economic progress it makes," said Zimmerman. "Trade certainly plays a role in your growth, and with trade comes the exchange of ideas and values that are the basis of change. This new openness has enriched the lives of hundreds of millions of Chinese. At Boeing, we believe that Most Favored Nation Status is the minimum requirement for meaningful economic exchange between the United States and China," he added.

China is one of the fastest growing air transportation markets in the world, with traffic growing by 19 percent during 1994.

Zimmerman stressed that cooperation between Boeing and the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) and the Aviation Industries of China (AVIC) is providing good results.

"Boeing has coined the term Working Together, which is meant to describe an approach that sets standards for teamwork, customer participation and cooperation. We've learned that just about anything can be accomplished when people work together. Our partnerships in China are certainly proof of that, said Zimmerman.

"Boeing is China's partner in success, and is a partner where there is challenge. We're committed to making investments in working together, to do the hard work necessary to succeed. Satisfying customers wins market share. There is a reason Boeing is still number one in the World: We continue to deliver value to our customers," said Zimmerman.
