FRAZIER TO HEAD MCDONNELL DOUGLAS MELBOURNE FACILITY

LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan. 20, 1997 -- McDonnell Douglas Corp. announced the appointment of John Frazier, 46, as the director of its Melbourne, Ark., production facility, effective today.

The appointment was announced by P.M. "Buzz" Lowry, vice president-deputy general manager of manufacturing at the Douglas Aircraft division of McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, Calif. The Melbourne plant manufactures doors, control surfaces and other components for McDonnell Douglas commercial jetliners. In his new position, Frazier reports to Lowry.

Frazier will be responsible for all facets of manufacturing at the Melbourne facility. He will focus on achieving production goals, and developing and maintaining sound business relationships with union leadership and community leaders.

Frazier brings to his new position more than 20 years of service with the corporation, most recently as manufacturing manager for the F/A-18 program, assigned to Northrop Grumman, a major program subcontractor.

He began his career at McDonnell Douglas as a milling machine operator and has held a series of increasingly responsible positions, including senior manager of production for the Harpoon and SLAM missile programs.

"John has well-demonstrated leadership ability in manufacturing management," Lowry said. "He welcomes challenges and has a complete understanding of manufacturing processes."

Frazier replaces Jim Van Pelt, who served as the Melbourne facility director for five years. Van Pelt retired after more than 40 years with McDonnell Douglas.

McDonnell Douglas manufactures a family of twin-jet airliners, the MD-80 series, the MD-90 series, and the new 100-passenger MD-95, as well as the popular MD-11 wide-cabin trijet.
